In 2017 RedLine will present (Dis)place, a series of exhibitions, programs, events, and socially engaged art projects focused on themes of geography, community, access to resources, location, and relocation. In a rapidly growing city where the cost of living continues to escalate, RedLine’s programming will explore the many complicated layers of what makes a “place.” The platform will promote dialogue around the benefits and potential pitfalls of economic progress as artists, activists, and residents examine the relationships between spaces and the various communities they support. How does the physical fabric of a city contribute to understandings of civic character? What do neighborhoods and populations gain from expansion and redevelopment, and what is lost as a result? How can art delineate places and mediate between communities? Through (Dis)place, RedLine will consider these questions and many others by featuring art and programming that address the depth and scope of what comprises a place.
