On Sunday November 5th, youth participants from one of our grantee projects, Art from Ashes were gifted with an incredible opportunity, free tickets to the JAY-Z 4:44 concert in Denver, thanks to the generosity of the Shawn Carter Foundation and Roc Nation. Seven of their youth poets – many of whom struggle with homelessness – got to dance and sing along at the concert in the front row at the Pepsi Center.
Since 2003, Art from Ashes has been engaging and transforming youth through their dynamic creative empowerment programs, facilitated by an array of local artists and poets. Through these workshops and by partnering with a wide variety of organizations, schools and groups in Colorado, Art from Ashes to high-risk youth, while nurturing emotional intelligence skills, self-expression and connection among the most neglected and vulnerable segments of our community.
Art from Ashes staff member Jessica Whetsel (Program Facilitation and Youth Facilitation) accompanied the group and remarked after the evening, "Our young people were blown away and are still talking about how much they enjoyed the experience. All of us at Art from Ashes are so grateful for the chance to attend this event with our youth!"
