Residency Program
Gretchen Schaefer
Gretchen Marie Schaefer was born in Denver in 1982. She received a BA in English and Visual Arts from Regis University in 2005. She has worked in printmaking, handmade books, film, painting and drawing. Her most recent work is inspired by entomology, anatomy, biology, geometry and sight discomfort. Working with pencil and pen on plywood she creates indefinable, awkward compositions from graceful, delicate lines. Flowing ropes of muscular-like tendrils combine with anatomically and geometrically inspired bursts of color made with colored pencil and watercolor and is coated in epoxy. Some of her recent library checkouts include Vampiro: The Vampire Bat in Fact and Fantasy by David E. Brown, Images of Science: A History of Scientific Illustration by Brian J. Ford, and Science & Technology in the Arts: A tour through the realm of science+art by Stewart Kranz. lineology.com |
