Play Space ARTIST Application

Due March 17, 2017

Redline is looking for artists or art educators to facilitate a series of creative play workshops during the summer of 2017. Each artist will present three drop in workshops over three weeks in a Denver park. The workshops take place from 10:30am to noon on Thursdays and Saturdays from June through August. A stipend of $300 as well as $100 for materials will be provided.

Play Space is a free, drop in children’s summer community art program managed by RedLine Non-Profit Contemporary Art Center. The program takes place in in two parks in the Five Points neighborhood.

A successful proposal will combine contemporary art processes with play. Unique materials and processes are welcome. However, a sense of fun, game-playing and creative play should take precedence over simply learning technique or completing a project or craft to take home. Applicants are asked to keep in mind that they will not have the same participants from week to week. However, each session of the project should be unique (non-repeating), as well as flexible enough to engage youth between ages 2-16. RedLine staff are onsite to support the program.

Past examples: Storytelling/games played with dance and movement, creating costumes out of cardboard, creating large scale cyanotypes and building tents with them, navigating paths while looking through camera obscuras, throwing paint filled water balloons at large white sculptures.
