Nathan Hall with Tristan McKay

Toy Piano Suite for Colorado Landscapes

Several sites for performance: downtown Denver, Rocky Mountain National Park, Plains Conservation Center; and locations for education/workshop opportunities.

'Toy Piano Suite for Colorado Landscapes' is a collaboration between composer and artist Nathan Hall and composer-pianist Tristan McKay. The two musicians are taking a toy piano out into three distinct landscapes surrounding the Denver region: the mountains, the city, and the plains--to perform music written for those very spots, with a focus on the interactions between music and Colorado ecology. The toy piano is indeed a toy, but many composers have written music for its humorous, quirky, and childlike bell tones. Hall and McKay will produce a video work of these performances to screen for audiences, as well as perform live in participatory workshops with participants.
