About Becoming Whole

Becoming Whole is the integration of the self, composed of many composite parts and instances. The BEcoming: that is what we are doing. Conventional understandings of wholeness may be too finite an end for any dynamic person such as we are to achieve, but integration allows for our infinite provisionality. The art that we make serves as handles to hold and landings amidst the flux of modern life.

To become is to “begin to be.” As each day is new, we must begin again and again. Becoming whole is the work of the artist: in an effort to integrate our multifaceted selves and the generous story of humanity, the artist approaches the threshold to look, enter into, or out of the vast interior and transpersonal realms of selfhood.

Each progressive approach widens the artist’s awareness, presents new thresholds, and furthers our edges of knowing. This is what we do: we approach again and again, look with fresh eyes, and trust our beginner self to recognize and channel the expressions of humanness that come to be our art.

Consider each artist’s work in its unique telling of the human story:

  • Eddy Beard tells us about the sweetness of community and accepting its gifts to rise to a giving fullness.

  • Kesiena Sebeni shows us the intimate inner world of energy and feeling that accompanies and expands beyond our human form.

  • Mariah Ramos shows us the unseen network of spiritual kin including each other and our ancestors that help guide and carry us along our paths.

  • Myra Nagy reminds us that the self in process is enoughness - the wholeness we seek - needing neither manipulation nor judgement.

  • Barry Lewis lives in the painting, existing freely within creative spirit and reminds us all of the refuge, relief and freedom that is creative practice.

  • Through ode and symbol, Vanessa Constanetti reminds us of feminine courage and abundance.

  • Matt Maes draws our awareness to the world’s myths and archetypes, showing us our shared human understandings and experiences.

  • Through autoportraiture, Eckseption (Leeandra Lujan) evokes in us our own capacity to reinvent ourselves and step confidently along the path of our choosing.

  • Sharon Morrison reaches forward, back and wide to express togetherness of feminine wholeness.

  • Robin Hill wants us to “Know If, And, Or, But” and take it all without apology.
