Tyree Jones-Evans - Not Another Black Art Show Group Exhibition

Where: Niza Knoll Gallery - 915 Santa Fe Dr., Denver, CO, 80204
When: May 30-June 29, 2025
Opening Reception: June 7, 6-9pm
Artist Panel: June 20, 1-4pm

About the exhibition: "Not Another Black Art Show" creates a space that abandons imposed meanings behind black art and embraces nuance within the work. As blackness is already a lived experience for each artist, they make no effort to showcase easily digestible “blackwork.” Instead, each artist has showcased individualized work to isolate themselves from racial expectations, and show that their narratives lie far beyond what one month or one day could ever acknowledge.

About the artist: Denver-based painter Tyree Jones-Evans creates poignant portraits using her knowledge of color and human expression. While her primary discipline is oil painting, her work veers toward a multidisciplinary practice, as she occasionally includes photography, drawing, and collage. She is inspired by light and how it manipulates color, effectively fostering kindred moods in her work.

Her love for color, light, and expression is fundamental, and it continues to unlock potential for different representations within her work. She believes these three visual elements can communicate universally, which creates a deeper exploration into what can be said through a portrait. She is a 2024-2026 Resident Artist at RedLine Contemporary Art Center. She has had work displayed in CVA Gallery, Niza Knoll Gallery, and has been featured on CPR for her work.

In a political climate where our mere existence is at stake, we offer up new, visibly queer music, texts, and movement works, supporting voices of all ages from our Rocky Mountain Region. Show is suitable for all audiences, but suggested ages 10 and up.

About the artist: Nathan Hall is a composer and artist who explores site-specificity, nature and climate (particularly about ideas and culture of the North), sexuality, and personal identity. His works have been performed and exhibited in 16 countries and 24 US States by institutions and ensembles including MCA Denver, Clyfford Still Museum, Mattress Factory Museum, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and more. Nathan Hall is a former Fulbright Fellow to Iceland, a McKnight Visiting Composer, and he holds his Doctorate in Musical Arts (DMA) from CU Boulder.

He holds a BA from Vassar College and MM from Carnegie Mellon. Nathan has been awarded numerous grants including projects with FEMA and a New Music USA grant, and has been the Artist in Residence at two US National Parks, France, Iceland, and Sweden, among others.
