Jandel Allen-Davis, MD

Jandel Allen-Davis is a Denver-based multidisciplinary artist whose work spans art quilts, fiber sculpture, hand-dyed textiles, and freehand pen-and-ink drawing.

Rooted in a practice that began with quilting in 1989, her work explores connection, community, healing, and the possibilities that emerge when we move beyond prescribed lines. Color, texture, rhythm, and the tactile nature of fiber are central to her visual language.

Allen-Davis’s artistic path has been one of continual expansion—from traditional quiltmaking to creating her own dyed fabrics, sculptural fiber works, and meditative drawings.

Her work has been presented in solo, collaborative, and juried exhibitions, including Quilting Outside the Lines at Colorado Academy; When Fiber Meets Glass: A Conversation at RedLine Contemporary Art Center; the Houston International Quilt Festival; and exhibitions at Children’s Hospital Colorado and Republic Plaza. Her selection for the prestigious juried Husqvarna Viking Gallery of Quilts was a particular milestone: the quilt toured internationally for two years and is now part of the permanent collection of Cleo Parker Robinson Dance.

Her most recent major body of work, Bearing Witness, comprises four large pieces created from the bow-tie collection of a beloved and well-known pediatrician who died three years earlier. The series gives these deeply personal objects a “second act,” transforming them into a meditation on memory, presence, and legacy. Her work is also held on permanent display in several locations across metro Denver.

A physician and the President and CEO of Craig Hospital, Allen-Davis understands art not as separate from leadership and medicine, but as essential to both.

Her creative and civic work reflects a longstanding belief in art’s power to foster wellbeing, build community, open new ways of thinking, and help people make meaning during times of change. She has supported Colorado’s cultural community for more than three decades through board service, philanthropy, arts advocacy, public speaking, and the donation of artwork to nonprofit organizations.

In 2024, Allen-Davis received the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts’ John Madden, Jr. Leadership Award in recognition of her enduring commitment to arts and culture.
